From the age of three, she was raised in Milnathort, Perth and Kinross. The runner has a younger brother named Rory, with the duo both attending Kinross High School together. Laura went on to study veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow and graduated in 2018. In June 2023, she was awarded an honorary degree from the same university.
Sharing the happy news on social media, Laura wrote alongside a snap of herself: "It felt very surreal returning to the grounds where I graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon 5 years ago, certainly did not expect to be back and so soon! "A very special day surrounded by incredibly inspiring people and to have my name along side them was a huge honour. I cannot thank the University of Glasgow and the School of Veterinary Medicine for all their support both during and after my studies. Does this mean I can call myself Dr ² now?" Her impressive achievements have not only earned her an extra degree but also her very own street, with a road in Milnathort being named Muir Way in tribute to her.

Guy Lodge Film Critic Who does a documentary truly belong to — the people who make it, the people who fund it, or the people it depicts? On the face of it, the answer seems obvious: At a spiritual level, if not always a corporate one, we tend to think of art as the property of the artist. Yet in dusting off a long-languishing nonfiction feature from the 1970s that was taken from its stymied director by his bankrollers and sent to the vault, Andrés Peyrot’s thoughtful, mirror-holding doc “God is a Woman” makes a compelling case for the third option.

Born in 1937, a fact he tried to cloud for many years, he was something of a renaissance man: He acted in soaps, he composed lucrative library music, he wrote a novel about a killer pike (“Pike can be dangerous, there’s no two ways about it”), and, after a wounding experience with a botched adaptation of his autobiographical novel Tuxedo Warrior, he decided to become a filmmaker himself.
