The original BBC Teletubbies series was a beloved TV show of the nineties and has been around for over 20 years. Kids everywhere loved watching Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po's fun adventures in Teletubby land. Purple Tinky Winky was known for his triangular antenna, and always carried a handbag, Dipsy was green, and had a 'dipstick' antenna. Meanwhile, Laa-Laa was yellow with a curly antenna and loved to sing and dance, and then Po was the littlest teletubby, and was known for her soft voice. Tinky winky Tinky Winky, the biggest Teletubby, was first played by actor and comedian Dave Thompson. However, his character's handbag sparked controversy and after the first run of episodes, Dave left the show in 1997 due to "creative differences". Since then, Dave, now 64, wrote his first novel, The Sex Life of a Comedian, and appeared in several Harry Hill's TV shows.
He is also a writer and stand-up comedian. The role of Tinky Winky was then taken over by Simon Shelton, a trained ballet dancer and choreographer.
Talking about his time on the show, he once shared: "I started my career as a ballet dancer and had just started working as a choreographer. I thought it was a bit of a risky move but it certainly paid off." "We used to receive a lot of fan mail from kids and parents.
