Gone are the likes of Chiara Aurelia and Olivia Holt, and instead a new cast of bright young things will be at the centre of all the drama.The official synopsis for the season reads: “Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship.“Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.”Fans of the series in the US have been able to watch the second season in its entirety already.

Though the news was announced on Thursday, Amazon says the greenlight was made official internally before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA went on strike, and that no work on Season 3 will begin until labor negotiations between the guilds and the studios have been resolved. According to Amazon, Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is one of the 10 most-watched seasons of any series ever on Amazon Prime Video, with its July 14 premiere more than doubling viewership of Season 1 within three days of launch.
