The Cuphead Show, a Netflix adaptation of the popular video game, has landed on the streaming service.
The animated series has been released to mixed reviews, with some fans of the game expecting more.
Netflix has begun experimenting with video game adaptations as of late, a risk that paid off for The Witcher, which raked in more than 142.4 million viewers for its second series.
It's clear why the game was pegged for Netflix adaptation in the first place, with its beautiful art design based on 1930s cartoons a la Disney and Looney Toons and the iconic anthropomorphized cups, Cuphead and Mugman.
The 'run-and-gun' game tasked players with collecting soul contracts for the Devil, after Cuphead - the most mischievous of the pair - bet his soul at the casino.
It's a gorgeous game full of frustrating boss battles and tension. But what's in store for Cuphead and co in the Netflix adaptation?
The Cuphead Show! Tries to bring the adventures of Cuphead and his brother Mugman to a wider audience.
The show's trailer starts with the pair white washing a fence. Cuphead convinces Mugman to head to a carnival named "Carnevil."
It doesn't work out too well, as Cuphead gets tricked into losing his soul at a game and has to run away from the actual devil.
We meet some of the game’s iconic bosses, such as Ms. Chalice and King Dice.
Cuphead and Mugman go on a bunch of other miscellaneous adventures over the next 12 episodes that each last 12 minutes.
All 12 episodes are available now, so it's ripe for bingeing.
The usually mute Cuphead and Mugman have been given New Jersey accents, with upcoming voiceover actor Tru Valentino ( Psychonauts 2 (2021 and Fast & Furious Spy Racers ) voicing Cuphead.
