From a 999 call to a conviction for murder, a new Channel 5 series makes compelling viewing for true crime fans. Tonight (Tuesday) is the turn of Julie Dixon, a woman who called the emergency services to report an attack on her partner David.
In 2011, anyone hearing the distressed call would have been horrified to hear that masked men had been into the business premises of the couple. And the shock of learning that David was now in a room which is alight would be horrifying.
But the story that Julie spun to the 999 operator and what actually happened bear little similarity to one another. In the series, specialists deconstruct criminals who report their own crimes to the police.

David Twigg, 46, and Julie Dixon, 43, were an engaged couple living in Burgh-le-Marsh near Skegness in Lincolnshire. They were together for 15 years.
In 2011 Dixon made a distressed 999 call. She told the operator that masked men had attacked them at her husband's joinery business, and her partner Mr Twigg was in a room on fire.
In reality, she had locked her partner in a storeroom and set the building alight with him inside. Fire crews found him kneeling in a “prayer-type position” after they broke into his joinery business.
He died of smoke inhalation.
Following his death, Dixon released a statement saying, “I am so numb with pain, my heart is broken. I’ve not just lost my partner of 15 years; I’ve lost the love of my life, my best friend, and soul mate”.
During the 999 call, Dixon said: "They set fire to the place," adding: "He’s in the storeroom I think... I think they’ve locked him in.”
