In case you missed it, there's a new haggis-flavoured beer that's just been launched in time for Burns Night.
Sold exclusively through online Scottish drinks company Flavourly, the celebration beer has been brewed by local Edinburgh based brewery Cold Town Beer and is inspired by Macsween's famous product.
As Scotland gets ready to celebrate Burns on January 25, the limited edition release has been perfectly timed for those looking for the ideal drink to go with their haggis, neeps and tatties.
Described as a Haggis 'spiced pale ale', the beer is made with Scottish malted barley and oats alongside a pinch of the Macsween’s secret blend – hand-delivered by the family for the project.
With Flavourly and Cold Town being given access to the top-secret Macsween recipe mix to create this novelty beer it's surely got to be a winner?
We are big fans of 'novelty' beer with the recently released Iron Brew sour from Vault City and the Ronseal 'no-nonsense' Saison from Northern Monk being two big hits for us.
But when it comes to haggis beer we were maybe expecting a darker style like a porter or a stout so we were a bit surprised to see they had gone with a spiced pale ale, which was a bit more distinctive and rather exciting.
Pouring straight from the can, the beer has a pale golden colour (as you'd expect from this style of beer) with a good head and a nice effervescence.
The modest, lightly tartaned can was also a nice touch, without overdoing that haggis theme.
The first thing you notice on the nose is that, incredibly, it smells exactly like haggis – which some might consider off-putting but actually is rather enticing, like a savoury, meaty ginger ale.
On first sniff, the spices are definitely there in abundance with a black pepper
