Paul Verhoeven says Bond films aren’t sexy anymore

James Bond franchise for not including any sex scenes in No Time To Die.The Benedetta director shared his thoughts on the 007 films following the news that Daniel Craig will be retiring from the role, saying many Hollywood studio films today are sexless.“It’s about crashing and blowing up,” Verhoeven said of franchises like 007, in an interview with The Sunday Times.“Sometimes these movies are fun, but the narrative tells you nothing about us now. I don’t see any other thought in Marvel or Bond movies.”Verhoeven shared his thoughts on what his own Bond film would look like, saying “I’d go back to reality” with “cars that don’t leap up into the sky.”The filmmaker went on to criticise No Time To Die for scrapping any intimate scenes between Bond, after praising the ones in Craig’s debut as 007 in Casino Royale.“There was always sex in Bond!” Verhoeven said.

Hans Zimmer Wins Oscar for ‘Dune’ Score, Accepts in a Bathrobe

Jon Burlingame editorHans Zimmer triumphed in Sunday’s best original score category at the Academy Awards, claiming the Oscar for the music of “Dune.”Zimmer did not attend the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre as he is on tour with his band in Europe. It is Zimmer’s second Academy Award; he previously won for 1994’s animated “The Lion King,” although he has 10 other nominations for such modern classics as “Rain Man” and “Gladiator” and high-profile Christopher Nolan movies like “Inception” and “Interstellar.”Zimmer’s victory had been widely predicted, as the composer has already won the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for his music for Denis Villeneuve’s much-admired adaptation of the sci-fi classic. “Dune” is the German-born composer’s second collaboration with the director, after their work together on “Blade Runner 2049.” Writing music for the project fulfilled a long-held ambition for Zimmer, who read Frank Herbert’s novel when he was 18 and had often imagined what the music of Arrakis might sound like.Eerie, ominous and dramatic, the Zimmer score is a unique mix of choral, world-music, rock and electronic sounds created by friends and colleagues on three continents during the pandemic.

Billie Eilish and Finneas’ ‘No Time to Die’ Refuses to Die, Wins Oscar Two Years After Release

Jon Burlingame editorBillie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won the original-song Oscar for “No Time to Die,” the title tune for the latest James Bond film, at Sunday’s 94th annual Academy Awards. It’s the third consecutive Academy Award for music in the long-running spy franchise, following Adele’s win for 2012’s “Skyfall” and Sam Smith’s for “Writing’s on the Wall” from 2015’s “Spectre.”The two wrote the song nearly three years ago and it was released in February 2020.It was also a clean sweep for the brother-and-sister duo, as they had already won a Grammy and the Golden Globe, plus Critics Choice and Society of Composers & Lyricists awards, for “No Time to Die.”Eilish, 20, becomes the second youngest honoree in this category, after 19-year-old Czech-Icelandic songwriter Markéta Irglová’s win for “Falling Slowly” from 2007’s “Once.” O’Connell is 24. Eilish and Finneas wrote “No Time to Die” in late 2019, as post-production on the 25th 007 epic was underway.
