Graham Nash Is in the ‘Now’ With New Album and Tour, but Reflective About David Crosby and CSNY

A.D. Amorosi Whether as singer-songwriter, activist or photographer, Graham Nash has never been one to let moss grow beneath him. Even less so, at 81, it seems, as Nash is mounting his latest tour this week (after releasing “Graham Nash: Live – Songs for Beginners/Wild Tales” in 2022), publishing his intimate photographs from the past and present in books such as “A Life in Focus,” and releasing his first studio LP since 2016’s “This Path Tonight” with the May 19 arrival of “Now,” on BMG. Though saddened by the sudden passing of his old friend and longtime collaborator David Crosby in January, Nash finds harmony and solace in working with pals such as vocalist Allan Clarke, his co-founding partner in the Hollies 60 years ago (a date marked by Nash’s current tour title, “Sixty Years of Songs and Stories”). Then there are Nash’s strikingly frank new songs on “Now,” some critical of all things MAGA and Trump-ian, some dedicated to love and passion. Nash even manages to pen a track dedicated to the good, the bad and the sad of his relationship with his superstar bandmates in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Nash spoke to Variety from Sellersville, PA, before showtime on the first day of his 2023 tour. The other day on YouTube’s “Kyle Meredith with…,” you revealed that David Crosby passed away suddenly during a battle with COVID-19. What sort of communication had you had with Crosby toward the close of his life?

‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identities of the Lamp and Dandelion: Here’s Who They Are

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 9 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired April 12 on Fox. It was “Masked Singer in Space Night,” but “The Masked Singer” could have also been celebrating “’90s Night.” That’s because the two celebrities unmasked on Wednesday’s episodes were both TV stars from that era: Melissa Joan Hart (of “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” fame) and Alicia Witt (“Cybill,” “Mr. Holland’s Opus”). Hart was revealed to be Lamp, while Witt was Dandelion. Witt had won the previous week as Dandelion, but her journey ended here. For Dandelion, panelist Ken Jeong guessed Witt right. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg thought it was Milla Jovovich. Robin Thicke went with Sara Bareilles and Nicole Scherzinger named Zooey Deschanel.

Angie Dickinson Reflects on ‘Rio Bravo’ and Her Friendships With Frank Sinatra and Rock Hudson

Todd Gilchrist editor “Fair to middling” is how Angie Dickinson is feeling this morning as she talks about “Rio Bravo,” the 1959 film that made her a star. “Somebody who says they’re great at 90, you can figure out that they lie a lot.” It’s a line that could have come straight from Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett’s script for the film — and a reminder that Dickinson’s gift for delivery isn’t dependent on working with a brilliant director, though she has many times in her seven-decade career. Dickinson has more then 350 screen credits — an enormous body of work that includes “Ocean’s Eleven” (the 1960 original), “Point Blank” and “Dressed to Kill.” She’s set to appear April 13 at the TCM Film Festival to introduce a 4K restoration of Howard Hawks’ classic Western, whose boys’ club cast of John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan she breaks up with that same brisk humor. Ahead of the event, Dickinson speaks with Variety about catching the acting bug after spying Frank Sinatra (later a lifelong friend) on the set of “The Jimmy Durante Show,” working with Brian De Palma, and other highlights from a lifetime of memories.

Lewis Capaldi Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles, Second Album Jitters in ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ Documentary

Mike Wass From serving drinks to passengers on a transatlantic flight to posing in his tighty-whities for a billboard, Lewis Capaldi’s reputation as music’s joker is hard-won. While the Scot’s wit and willingness to do just about anything for a laugh are on full display in his Netflix documentary, “How I’m Feeling Now,” Capaldi drops the mask long enough to share his Tourette’s diagnosis and struggle with imposter syndrome. A decision that weighed heavily. “I don’t know if you’re aware,” he deadpans, “but people are cunts.” Be that as it may, Capaldi forged ahead with the documentary. “I didn’t think I had a story that needed to be told,” he says, but director Joe Pearlman and his colleagues at Pulse Films saw it differently. The “Someone You Loved” hitmaker ultimately went along for the ride because he imagined the film as something of a victory lap. “I thought it was going to be triumphant,” he laughs. “But then COVID happened and they’re filming me sniffing my underpants.”
