A waitress has had her ‘week made’ after being tipped a gig ticket to see one of her favourite bands. Katie Wood, 23, from York, was working her regular shift at Northern Soul Grilled Cheese in the Northern Quarter yesterday (February 16) when she was tipped a ticket to see The 1975 by an American family bowled over by her service.
The band who hail from Wilmslow are currently playing Manchester’s AO arena as part of their ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour with fans spotted queuing outside the venue more than 48 hours before they were due on stage earlier this week.
Describing the moment Katie was given the ticket, Dan Place, the owner of Northern Soul, said: “It was an American table and they were going to sell the ticket and then they gave it to Katie. It was just such a classy touch off the table.

“They just turned to her and said: ‘Look we were going to sell this ticket but you’ve been so good to us and we’ve enjoyed our experience so much we’d like you to have it.’
“Katie is absolutely buzzing as she is a genuine 1975 fan so she is absolutely made up. It really confirms that she’s doing a great job.
“A couple of quid tip is always appreciated but when you get something special like that, a ticket worth £80 or £90, for Katie that’s a lot of money. She’s going to the gig tonight and will have a great time.”
Dan said the tip has ‘lifted’ the spirits of the team and means a lot at a time when hospitality is bearing the brunt of the cost-of-living crisis.
“In hospitality at the moment every other article seems to be someone closing down. We’ve been around a long time and we’re popular and offer an affordable product but people have less and less money
