A Scots prisoner serving over four years for slashing a fellow inmate from mouth to ear has been found with another homemade weapon behind bars.
Fergus Muldoon has had another four months added to his sentence after he admitted using part of a vape and cutlery to fashion a knife in Perth Prison.
Fiscal depute Michael Sweeney told Perth Sheriff Court: "Prison officers entered his cell to carry out a routine search.
A homemade weapon was found concealed within his folded laundry.
"There was a piece of plastic Scottish Prison Service cutlery with the casing of a vape at one end, and the plastic had been sharpened to a point."
Sheriff Mark Stewart jailed him for four months and said: "You are well aware of the court's attitude towards the use of improvised weapons in prison.
"It is not only prevalent, but is a very dangerous and troublesome part of prison life. All too often improvised weapons are used to cause significant, and sometimes fatal, injuries.
"The weapon was there and had no purpose except to injure. You are correct to think there is no alternative to custody." Muldoon admitted having a weapon in the jail on 15 October 2020.
He was jailed last year after conning Drew Davidson into entering his cell inside Perth Prison by telling him he wanted to show him something to read.
He then used a homemade weapon to slash his victim between his ear and his mouth, forcing him to go to hospital and have 11 stitches inserted in the wound.
Armed robber Muldoon, from Glenrothes, admitted attacking Davidson by striking him on the face with an open razor blade to his severe injury on 29 January 2021.
Davidson was seen coming out of the cell holding a blood soaked T-shirt over his face after being stabbed following a series of
