Been Stellar announce debut album on Dirty Hit and share lead single ‘Passing Judgement’

Been Stellar have announced their debut LP ‘Scream From New York, NY’ and shared its lead single ‘Passing Judgement’.The NYC five-piece – comprised of frontman Sam Slocum, guitarists Skyler Knapp and Nando Dale, bassist Nico Brunstein and drummer Laila Wayans – shared the first track from their debut LP today (February 29).“Passing judgment without home/ Passing judgment without home/ Once I see how can I hear?/ If you hear, that’s how I know,” sings Slocum in the chorus over distorted, gritty guitars and a pounding drumbeat.Speaking of the track in a press release, the band shared: “We were finishing ‘Passing Judgment’ in the midst of our first tour in the UK. Playing through it a bit differently each show, we were learning to look at the song from different angles.”They continued: “The recording feels live because of this process — there’s a chaotic feeling in the drums and bass that wouldn’t be there if we hadn’t finished writing it live,” shares lead vocalist Sam Slocum, “Lyrically I was thinking about why we judge the world around us, and how passing judgment on someone or something is usually rooted in being unsure in oneself.”Directed by Gabriel Long, the track’s accompanying video features the band performing the song in a posh restaurant while a restaurant guest looks uninterested and disconnected from her conversation.Been Stellar have also announced their signing to independent label Dirty Hit (The 1975, Beabadoobee, Bleachers) and have shared ‘Scream From New York, NY’, their first full length offering from their new label home.

Run-DMC star Jam Master Jay’s godson and friend found guilty of his murder

Run DMC‘s Jam Master Jay have been convicted of his murder over two decades after it took place. The artist, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot in the head at the age of 37 in Queens in 2002.Karl Jordan Jr and Ronald Washington targeted the artist at his recording studio in New York after they were cut out of a drug deal allegedly said to be worth $200,000, the court heard. They were first charged with murder back in 2020 and had initially plead not guilty.Jordan and Washington now face at least 20 years in prison. The murder trial began on January 30, with the court hearing that the Run-DMC legend’s killing was motivated by greed and revenge related to a drug deal row.An eyewitness who was at the scene of the shooting also appeared in court during the trial, identifying a suspect and recalling the Run-DMC star’s last moments.Jordan and Washington’s defence lawyer had notably invoked Harry Potter in the closing statements of the trial last week.As reported by Courthouse News, Jordan and Washington’s defence attorneys have pointed to evidence that they claim implies a third person as a suspect in Mizell’s murder, Jay Bryant.According to the prosecutors’ argument, Bryant was present simply to let Jordan and Washington into the building on the day of the murder before leaving.

Idles Uncork One of the Most Innovative Rock Records in Years With the Bruising ‘Tangk’: Album Review

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music These days it can be all too easy for rock fans to fall into despair. What was the last truly culture-shifting new rock band? The Strokes? The White Stripes? Alternative forms of rock have been thriving, but it’s been a grim two decades for traditional guitar-based rock, as even the powers-that-be behind Grammy nominations seemed to have trouble finding worthy nominees beyond the usual Queens-of-the-Foo-Kings suspects (although they have branched out in recent years).

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign release controversial new album ‘Vultures 1’

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have finally released their controversial new collaborative album, ‘Vultures 1’.The pair have been teasing their new album for some months, after news first circulated in August 2023 that West would be releasing new music “imminently” before reports of a late January release and then a drop date set for yesterday (Friday February 9).When that failed to materialise, many expected an indefinite wait. However, the record – the first in an instalment of three – has now been released on Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL and Spotify. There was some delay before it arrived on the latter, leading many to believe that it might be available on the platform. The 16-track album also features contributions Lil Durk, Bump J, Freddie Gibbs, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Quavo, and West’s daughter, North.
