The two New York ex-cons accused in connection with the shooting death of the father of a local Marist College student at a Poughkeepsie hotel were ordered held without bail on Friday after they pleaded not guilty.  Roy Johnson and Devin Taylor are charged separately for their involvement in the October 2 shooting that led to the death of 53-year-old Paul Kutz and the discovery of an alleged bomb-making "manual."  Wearing a white t-shirt and an orange jail-issued jumpsuit with his hair up, Johnson – the man accused of opening fire and killing Kutz – appeared in New York's Dutchess County Court early Friday. A New York City police officer was sent to the hospital after being stabbed by a man who allegedly became "combative" and "belligerent." The incident happened on Thursday at about 7:15 a.m. in front of 2349 Andrews Avenue in the Bronx when police responded to a 911 call of a man with a knife, a New York City Police Department spokesperson said. When officers arrived at the scene and began engaging with the man, the spokesperson said that he "became combative/belligerent with the responding officers." The man then allegedly slashed one of the officers in the nose with a knife.

A federal judge temporarily blocked parts of New York state's new gun law in order to allow the Gun Owners of America to pursue a lawsuit challenging the legislation.  Chief Judge Glenn Suddaby of Northern District of New York state in Syracuse ruled that the Gun Owners of America (GOA) have a legitimate case for lawsuit against the new state law complicating the process to obtain a gun license. The decision will not go into effect for three days to allow the New York government to appeal Suddaby's ruling to a higher court.
