Students across the country have returned to universities as a new academic year begins.
For freshers, it's an exciting time as many get to know a new city - and for some, a new country - as they settle into their courses. Greater Manchester is home to some 120,000 students and boasts one of the largest student populations in Europe.
Our region has a number of universities, including the University of Manchester. Each year, early arrivals are usually welcome to settle in before September's Induction Week gets started.

Then, students are eased into their new courses for 12 weeks before the arrival of a much-anticipated Christmas break. In the following leg of each academic year, students will enter the final two trimesters intertwined with vacation weeks and graduation day celebrations for those who have reached the end of their courses.
