Uma Thurman was a little apprehensive when her daughter Maya Hawke expressed interest in the entertainment industry.
In a new interview with Access, the Kill Bill star shared that she initially had reservations about the 23-year-old actress following in her and father Ethan Hawke‘s footsteps.

“It’s a complicated career,” she told the outlet, bring up the difficulties of a “public facing” life.
“She’s a sensitive person,” Uma said of Maya. “Any protective parent would be anxious for their child to go into the public arena, not because they want to be in the public arena, but because they’re so creative. You just wish they’d find any other way to be creative.”
But after watching Maya perform, she realized it was what her daughter was supposed to do.
“She’s, in the end, such a brilliant actress. Obviously, there’s nothing else that she would have ever done,” Uma explained, adding, “Her talent was so big. It’s what she had to do.”
