YG Entertainment denies spending US$30million on BLACKPINK contracts

YG Entertainment has refuted reports that it spent US$30million on BLACKPINK‘s contract renewals.According to a business report released by the company on March 22, YG Entertainment had stated a KRW41.2billion (about US$30million) sum for intangible assets last year.Per Korea JoongAng Daily, this is an accounting practice commonly used by music labels in South Korea when funds are needed for contract renewals. Of note, last year YG Entertainment had secured the contract renewal of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK for group activities, following a months-long negotiation process. However, YG Entertainment has since denied that all the funds were used for that purpose, in a statement to Korea JoongAng Daily. “There were various other contract renewals as well as new contracts formed over various intellectual property,” a YG Entertainment spokesperson said. The label added that it “cannot disclose the contract details”, but noted that “the amount in question cannot be considered exclusive to BLACKPINK’s contract extension”.In the same report, Korea JoongAng Daily also noted that YG Entertainment said that it is “planning” for group activities from BLACKPINK.

Noel Gallagher once bought one of Peter Green’s Gibson Les Paul guitars – but erased Green’s signature from it

Noel Gallagher once bought one of Peter Green’s Les Paul guitars, and intentionally removed the signature from it to get back at a rude employee. The late rock icon and Fleetwood Mac founder was the owner of countless high-profile guitars, including the famous ‘Greeny’ – which was later passed to Gary Moore, who handed it on to Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. However, that particular model was just one of a number of guitars that were sold after his death, and now The Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones has revealed the story behind one that was modified by Oasis legend Noel Gallagher.Speaking with Guitar World, he recalled how he was given the Les Paul by Gallagher in 2006 when The Coral were recording an album in his studio, but was initially unaware of the rich history behind the model.Recalling how the Britpop icon got his hands on the guitar, Ryder-Jones recalled how Gallagher erased the Peter Green signature from the body out of spite of a rude shop owner.“He didn’t know who Noel was; he somehow had not heard of Oasis,” he explained. “But Noel saw one of the guitars at the top of the shelf, like behind the counter, and said, ‘Can I have a go with that Les Paul?’“And the guy behind the counter goes, ‘Erm, you do know that was Peter Green’s, and it’s signed by Peter Green, right?’ He reluctantly got it down and gave it to Noel.”From there, Gallagher, who was apparently irked by the shop owner’s attitude, decided to get back at him and “spat on his T-shirt and rubbed off the signature.”“He purposefully rubbed off Peter Green’s signature to make a point to the guy in the guitar shop,” Ryder-Jones continued.

John Squire on why he’s never had a signature guitar

John Squire has revealed the reason why he has never launched his own signature guitar. The Stone Roses member is regarded as one of the most influential British rock guitarists of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and an icon of the Britpop scene – so it may come as a surprise that he has never issued a signature model of his own.Well, during a new interview with Guitarist Magazine as part of the March cover story, Squire was asked why he had yet to release his own design, which led to him revealing the simple answer: “No one’s asked me.”Speaking with the outlet, the Stone Roses star also shared that another British guitar asked him the same question, and speculated the issue may have been to do with the brand he plays the most often.“Jimmy Page once said to me, ‘Have Gibson not been onto you?’ And I said, ‘No, maybe I play too many [Fender] Strats.’ Jimmy said, ‘Yeah, probably,’” he recalled, before going on to add: “I think it’s more likely to be that they don’t know who I am.”The interview with Guitarist comes in light of Squire teaming up with another Britpop icon, Liam Gallagher, to share a collaborative album. Both the former Oasis star and Stone Roses frontman shared their self-titled debut album earlier this month, following the release of the lead single ‘Just Another Rainbow’ and follow-up ‘Mars to Liverpool’.The album was given a four-star review, with NME stating: “Although [Squire has] been more focused on creating visual art in recent years, the guitarist’s genius remains undimmed, as he adorns these bluesy arrangements with slow-burning grooves and wailing licks that ache with his life-long love of Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.”“This is psychedelic, on occasion even transcendent music brought down to earth by
