Two crashes on the Queensferry Crossing have caused rush hour chaos heading into Edinburgh this morning, with commuters facing lengthy queues.
The first collision happened on the southbound carriageway of the M90 shortly before 7am, with emergency services including Police Scotland called to the scene to assist. The three vehicles involved blocked one of the lanes approaching Edinburgh, adding further delays to the usual morning traffic on the bridge.
Minutes later, reports came in of a second three-car collision on the same carraigeway, with traffic queuing back into Fife. Traffic Scotland has issued several warnings about the crashes this morning, warning motorists that they face delays of up to 55 minutes due to the incidents.
The carriageway has now been cleared but traffic remains heavy in the area, and drivers are being asked to approach with caution. Photos taken on the busy bridge show complete gridlock after the collisions, with traffic grinding nose to tail along the southbound route back as far as Pitreavie.
It is understood no one was hurt or required hospital treatment as a result.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.50am on Wednesday, November 9, police received a report of two separate three-car road crashes on the Queensferry crossing. Officers attended and the drivers had exchanged details. No further police involvement."
