Catherine Hardwicke is reflecting on the legacy of Twilight.
To celebrate 15 years since the release of the film, the director sat down with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast in a special watchalong episode, sharing casting stories and tales about the film.
At one point, the host also speculated about who could take the reigns as the lead characters of the hit franchise among today’s actors.
“Is anyone in the new crop today? Like, who do you cast?” Josh asked.

Josh Horowitz then offered Jacob Elordi as an idea, as well as Jenna Ortega.
“Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today? Is Jenna Ortega…?”
“Oh, that would be perfect,” she said in response to the idea.
“Have you seen Saltburn yet? He’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today, exactly,” she added.
“Is there any young actress that feels like a Kristen Stewart of this next generation, that jumps out? I mean, it’s a tough act to follow.”
“That’s so interesting. I mean, I do think there’s a lot of cool young actors. I’m not sure I could say. You just mentioned Jenna Ortega…she’s amazing,” Catherine went on to say.
She also revealed why the studio was initially hesitant to cast Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen.
