TV Ratings: NBC’s ‘Chicago’ Trio Leads Wednesday Primetime

The American Society of Cinematographers on Wednesday set its nominees for the 35th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards, recognizing the best in feature film, documentary and television cinematography over the past 14 months. Winners will be revealed April 18 in a virtual ceremony from the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood.

Annnd … action! The Directors Guild of America is out with the nominations for its 73rd annual DGA Awards for theatrical feature film and first-time feature. The guild, which unveiled its TV, commercials and documentary nominees on Monday, will announce this year’s winners during an April 10 virtual event.

Agnieszka Holland's Charlatan won five Czech Lions, including the top prize for best film, at theCzech Film and Television Academy Awards, held this weekend. The based-on-a-true-story tale of Jan Mikolasek, a Czech herbalist and healer persecuted by Communist authorities in the late 1950s, also won best director for Holland, best actor for Czech star Ivan Trojan, as well as best cinematography and best sound.

Kim Kardashian, 40, celebrated International Women’s Day with some of the most important girls in her life: her daughter Chicago West, 3, and nieces True Thompson, 2, and Stormi Webster, 3. The foursome gathered in the futuristic living room of Kim’s Hidden Hills mansion to watch Beauty and the Beast, and Kim gave some hilarious commentary during the viewing.

The Night Shift star Eoin Macken has been tapped as the male lead opposite Natalie Zea in NBC’s drama pilot La Brea. Another NBC series star, Chicago P.D.‘s Jon Seda, is one of two actors, originally cast in the project a year ago and released in June, who have been brought back to reprise their role, along with Chiké Okonkwo.

One of the most distressing scenes in Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 is when Judge Julius Hoffman orders that Black Panther Bobby Seale be gagged and shackled during the 1969 proceedings. Seale's inhumane treatment — captured by a sketch artist at the time — has inspired a new exhibit by artist Karon Davis at Jeffrey Deitch gallery in New York (March 6 to April 24).

NBC also premiered the sci-fi drama series “Debris” at 10 p.m.

The Cinema Audio Society is out with the nominees for its 57th annual CAS Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing. The seven categories spanning film and TV from 2020, with the virtual trophy show is set for Saturday, April 17.
