Noel Gallagher took to the stage in front of 25,000 fans tonight at a huge home-coming gig at Wythenshawe Park tonight. It was Noel's first first show in Manchester since a gig at Heaton Park in 2019 - and the closest he's played to his childhood home of Burnage since the Oasis mega gigs at Maine Road at the height of their fame.
It is one of the biggest events to ever take place in Wythenshawe Park - and it could the first of many. Noel Gallagher's huge homecoming gig on Saturday (August 26) is set to bring some 25,000 fans to the south Manchester suburb.
The humid clouds do not spoil the view of Singapore from the rooftop of the Fullerton Bay Hotel. The landmark Marina Bay Sands, its three towers hovering in a vista from a sci-fi film, dominates the background and provides the backdrop for a Manchester United photocall.
The final preparations are underway at historic Wythenshawe Park ready for the arrival of some 25,000 music fans to roar the return of homecoming star Noel Gallagher this weekend. It's the first time this huge Greater Manchester parkland has ever hosted a live gig on this scale - and rather fittingly it will be from a rock star who grew up just down the road in Burnage.
Noel Gallagher has recalled the stress he experienced in the lead-up to his first show with Oasis because he’d “never played guitar standing up”.During an interview for Gibson TV‘s ‘Icons’ series, the singer-songwriter remembered how he’d only “done a few rehearsals” with the Manchester band after joining their line-up in the early ’90s.“We were doing one song of mine, which was ‘Columbia’, but it was instrumental,” Gallagher explained (via Rolling Stone).“We’ve got a gig on Tuesday, and it suddenly dawns on me that I’ve never played guitar standing up. Not only that, I don’t own a fucking strap. This is Sunday night.
A wave of £5 after-work ‘rush hour’ gigs are set to come to Manchester to show off up-and-coming musical talent.
The first photos of Wythenshawe Park as it prepares for a huge gig this weekend have been unveiled.
