Ukraine intensified Tuesday as the Cannes Film Festival said no Russian delegations would be welcome this year and the Venice festival announced free screenings of a film about the 2014 conflict in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.The announcements by Europe's two premier film festivals came on the heels of other high-profile protests in the arts, including Hollywood's decision to pull films scheduled for release in Russia and the Munich Philharmonic's decision to fire chief conductor Valery Gergiev. The orchestra, joined by other orchestras and festivals linked to Gergiev, cited his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his refusal to reject the invasion.Cannes, which is scheduled for May, is the most global of film festivals and its international village of flag-waving pavilions annually hosts more than 80 countries from around the world.In a statement, festival organizers said the ban on any official Russian delegation or individuals linked to the Kremlin would remain “unless the war of assault ends in conditions that will satisfy the Ukrainian people.”The festival didn’t rule out accepting films from Russia.

The Paisley community has been left reeling following the tragic deaths of four people who are feared to have taken deadly pills.
Tributes have flooded social media for those who lost their lives after taking what police and health bosses fear was dangerous Etizolam tablets, known as street Valium.
Diane Sanderson, 28, and Hiatam Gibali, 37, were the two most recent thought to have fallen victim to the street pills.
Young mum Diane was tragically found in a property in Stock Street on January 24.
Hiatam, who lived nearby, was rushed by ambulance to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra hospital after police were called back to the street an hour later - but died in hospital.
A bouquet of yellow flowers can be seen poignantly on display at the former Castlehead High School pupil’s flat.
The message reads: “Hiatam, gone too soon - you were a great wee guy, going to be missed by all.
“Fly high with the angels.”

A neighbour, who lived in the same building as Hiatam, who was known as Tam, said she was “heartbroken” for his friends and family.
Hiatam had lived in the building alongside her for 10 years, and she said he was a “good neighbour who was always there if she needed him.”
She told the Express she was shocked to hear of the deaths of Hiatam and Diane, adding: “It’s really heartbreaking.
“I heard it was dangerous pills that killed him which is just terrible. It’s disgusting that there is stuff out there being sold to people that can do this to them.
“He was my neighbour for a long time. Ten years I have lived here and he was always a good neighbour to me.
“He was always there for me if I ever needed him.

Munich may fire Russian conductor Gergiev over Ukraine
NEW YORK -- Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter has threatened to remove Valery Gergiev as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic unless Gergiev publicly says by Monday that he does not support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.The 68-year-old Russian conductor is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin and supported Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.“I have made my position clear to Valery Gergiev and have asked him to clearly and unequivocally distance himself from the brutal invasion that Putin is waging against Ukraine and now in particular against our twin city, Kyiv,” Reiter said in a statement Thursday. “If Valery Gergiev does not take a clear stance by Monday, he can no longer remain chief conductor of our philharmonic.”Gergiev has been Munich's chief conductor since the 2015-16 season.
