The trial of Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been adjourned until at least Tuesday next week after one of the jurors tested positive for Covid.
The remaining eleven jurors were brought back into Chester Crown Court this morning (Wednesday) and were informed by Judge Steven Everett, the Recorder of Chester, that the case was being delayed after one of their number had tested positive.
The judge told the remaining jurors they would be contacted on Monday to inform them whether the trial would resume as anticipated on Monday, and then sent them home. Judge Everett also told the jurors that one of their number had tested positive for Covid during the morning and 'doesn't feel very well'.

He went on that that guidance from the court service and the NHS was that anyone who tested positive should avoid meeting people for five days. Judge Everett: "That will take us until Tuesday of next week."
The judge added: "What we will do is we will wait until Monday and then ask the juror how he feels. If he tests negative and feels well enough, the idea is we will sit again on Tuesday."
Mr Mendy denies seven counts of rape against four women, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault.
The offences are alleged to have taken place at his mansion between October 2018 and August last year, relating to seven women in total. Mr Mendy's co-accused Louis Saha Matturie, 41, from Eccles, Salford, denies six counts of rape; and three counts of sexual assault, relating to seven women.
