American rapper Travis Scott stopped his performance on Monday to ensure fans were safe, eight month after the Astroworld tragedy that killed ten people and injured thousands of others. Travis – the 31 year old dad of Kylie Jenner's kids – was performing in Houston Texas on November 5, 2021 when a crowd crush ensued and tragically became fatal for some audience members.
He took to the stage once again on Monday evening in New York, but stopped mid-way through his performance to ensure his fans were safe.The Sicko Mode rapper told members of the audience who were climbing on a metal truss near the stage to “get down” several times. Travis is still facing multiple lawsuits following the tragedy during his headline set at the Astrowold music festival in Texas last year.Ten people died and many more were injured as fans surged toward the stage, though the rapper said he did not know people were hurt while he was performing.
In video footage shared online of a performance at the Coney Art Walls in Coney Island, the rapper is seen performing alongside fellow US rapper Meek Mills. But he stopped part-way through his set to tell his fans: "We need y’all to get down.” Later on, the pair ensured that other people in the crowd are okay and told members of security not to push on the barricades at the venue.
It comes after a US festival scheduled to feature Travis's first headline slot since the Astroworld tragedy was cancelled due to logistical issues.The Day N Vegas festival, due to take place in September, said that a combination of timing and productions had forced the cancellation.
