Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has spoken out after a shooting unfolded at their victory parade. Gunfire sent fans scrambling for cover and left 21 people wounded and one woman dead on Wednesday (February 14).
At least eight children are among those who were shot. Three people were detained and firearms were recovered, police chief Stacey Graves said at an evening news conference.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Travis wrote: "I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me." Fellow teammates Patrick Mahomes and Drue Tranquill also posted messages of support.

Mahomes simply wrote: "Praying for Kansas City," while Tranquill asked for prayers for the victims, saying: "Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act." The Chiefs organisation also released a statement expressing their sadness and gratitude towards law enforcement and emergency personnel.
The shooting outside Union Station happened despite the presence of more than 800 police officers who were in the building and nearby, including on top of nearby structures, said mayor Quinton Lucas, who attended with his wife and mother and ran for safety when the shots rang out. “Parades, rallies, schools, movies. It seems like almost nothing is safe,” Mr Lucas said.
Ms Graves said police were still piecing together what happened and did not release details about those who were detained or a possible motive. “I’m angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,” she added Graves said.
