Finding a comfortable position on a flight can often seem like an exercise in futility.
For the majority, snagging a window seat is the golden ticket, offering a snug corner to lean into and perhaps even catch some shut-eye. It's not the case for the middle and aisle seats, which seem to be in a perpetual battle for the title of least desirable.
Yet, a new trick has surfaced on social media that claims to deliver comfort regardless of your seating assignment, though it's met with mixed reactions. Shared across various platforms, travellers have been demonstrating how they use their seatbelt to tether their ankles to the chair.
In a viral video, liked by over half a million viewers, travel influencers Angie and Ricky expressed their gratitude: "Thank you whoever posted this hack, finally tried this airplane hack and had the best nap ever. Life-changing."
Echoing the sentiment, another user proclaimed: "Had THE BEST nap," and illustrated the method while occupying the dreaded middle seat. She unlocked her seatbelt, drew her knees up, and then looped the belt around her ankles, effectively securing her feet.
Comments under these videos show users are split on the hack's appeal and practicality. One sceptic remarked: "My knees could NEVER." Another joked: "My fat calves could never!"
However, there were those who vouched for its effectiveness, with one commenter revealing: "Tried it, air hostess woke me up."
Another shared their recent experience: "I went on a plane today and did this it honestly was so nice."
Yet, not everyone was convinced about the safety of the trick. A concerned user warned: "If you crash your teeth would be in the back of your throat and something might impale your head so don't do this."
