The grieving mother was rocked by the news that because Peach was born before 24 weeks, she wouldn’t be entitled to statutory parental bereavement leave even if she wasn’t self employed. It was because of this that Whitney had to return to her market stall, despite still battling with her grief. Things got off to a rocky start when she believed that she wasn’t due back to work until the next day, and Felix Baker (Matthew Morrison) had to break the news to her that she was needed on the stall now.
As the day went on, Whitney was supported by the other stall holders, who looked after her pitch while she took a few minutes out. She explained to Felix that getting out and working had been the best thing for her. However, it was during this time that she received some more devastating news.
A phone call from the hospital revealed that Peach’s ashes were ready to be collected, pulling Whitney’s grief to the forefront once again. It only got worse when she later returned to the stall, only to be faced with Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) handing out leaflets to his Mother’s Day event. Things all became too much for Whitney and she rushed home in tears.
She was later visited at home by Zack Hudson (James Farrar), who offered her some comfort by offering to join her in picking up the ashes.
