It's known for its streets lined with independent shops, cafes, glitzy restaurants and celebrity-owned bars, many within listed historic buildings. And now the historic market town of Knutsford in Cheshire has been hailed among the best places to live in the UK in The Sunday Times' annual guide.
Knutsford was hailed by The Sunday Times as: "Smart with a heart, this posh market town has class from top to bottom". It is found just off the M6 at Junction 19 in Cheshire.
It made the list of seven towns and villages named the best in the north west to make your home. Also on the Best Places to Live list, announced this weekend, were Prestwich and Stockport in Greater Manchester, the village of Christleton near Chester in Cheshire, Sefton Park in Liverpool, Ribble Valley in Lacashire and Kendal in Cumbria.

The guide said: "Cosy and comfortable Knutsford is in Cheshire’s sweet spot south of Manchester — avoiding both inner-city bustle and a long commute. Interlinked high streets, a glitzy social scene and interesting architecture make it an irresistible destination for aspirational families and upwardly mobile young professionals."
Knutsford is spread out across two distinct streets - Princess Street and King Street - known locally as the 'top' and 'bottom' street. A trip to the historic market town provides a plethora of period buildings with a chance to explore independent shops and eateries.
And there's plenty of showbiz sparkle in Knutsford these days too - with two celebrity-owned bars in the hospitality mix here.
