‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ ‘Mission Impossible 7’ Release Dates Delayed Amid Delta Surge

ViacomCBS has become the first major Hollywood film and television conglom to set a January return date for all employees to return to the office. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish made the announcement in a company memo Friday, saying that the “Green  phase” of the return-to-office process “will now launch  no sooner than January 10, 2022.” Everyone entering ViacomCBS’  offices in that phase will have to be fully vaccinated.

NEW YORK -- Paramount Pictures on Wednesday postponed the release of “Top Gun: Maverick," sending another of the fall's top movies out of 2021 due to the rise in coronavirus cases and the delta variant.Instead of opening Nov. 19, the “Top Gun” sequel, starring Tom Cruise, will instead debut Memorial Day weekend next year, on May 27.

Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 have been delayed as cases of COVID-19 continue to surge.The highly-anticipated sequel, which sees Tom Cruise reprise his role as Maverick, will now release in cinemas on May 27, 2022, instead of November 19, 2021.Mission: Impossible 7 has been pushed back to September 30, 2022, four months after its original slated release on May 27, 2022.

It’s not Venom: Let There Be Carnage going on Nov. 19, rather Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife which received high praise from exhibition out of CinemaCon. Word was that the Marvel sequel would move from Oct. 15 after Paramount flew Top Gun: Maverick from its Nov. 19 date, however, it’s the Jason Reitman-directed, Ivan Reitman produced sequel to the Columbia Pictures comedy franchise.

Two Tom Cruise movies are on the move once again due to the pandemic.

“Mission: Impossible 7,” which had been slated for release next year on Memorial Day weekend, has been moved to September 30, 2022 while “Top Gun: Maverick” moves to that Memorial Day slot from a previous spot on November 19. “Jackass Forever” will move from October 2 to February 4, 2022.
