BGT semi finalist Leightonjay admits: “I used to lie to everyone and tell them I didn’t dance”

It’s time for the third Britain’s Got Talent semi final on Wednesday 29 May, and one of the acts taking to the stage in the hopes of going through to the final on Sunday 2 June is Leightonjay Halliday from Douglas in Scotland. The 23 year old impressed judges Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell with his water-soaked, emotional dance to Kodi Lee’s Changes with his original performance in the final round of auditions. In an interview with OK! a few hours before he was due back on stage for the live semi-final, Leightonjay revealed that when he was growing up he kept his dancing talents a secret from everyone to avoid being teased “I loved Grease when I was young because the dancing in that is respected and cool, whereas growing up in Scotland it was the complete opposite – as a dancer I wasn’t really respected or cool at all,” he explains.

D:Ream on being booked for Glastonbury and the return of ‘Things Can Only Get Better’

UK losing five nightclubs per week as industry demands “immediate intervention”

made a push for government action after finding that over 30 per cent of nightclubs in the UK were forced to close in 2023.Between March 2020 and December 2023, 396 nightclubs were forced to close permanently across the UK – a blow accounting for 31 per cent of the total businesses within the country.Once again, those worst impacted were the independent businesses, as tenanted businesses declined from 225 to 193 between December 2020 and December 2023 and managed businesses went down from 37 to 29 during the same period.Other findings emerged back in January last year when NTIA shared that one-third of UK nightclubs closed by the end of 2022, then again in August, when they revealed that over 100 independent nightclubs across the UK had closed down over the past year.More recently, at the start of the year the results were shared for 2023 – revealing a “disaster” that hit grassroots music venues across the 12 months.Among the key findings into their “most challenging year”, it has been reported that last year saw 125 UK venues abandon live music and that over half of them had shut entirely – including the legendary Moles in Bath.

‘Bluey’ was almost a completely different show

Imagine a world where “Bluey” didn’t know what a dunny or a bin chicken was, or where she sounded more like Skye from Paw Patrol than her true-blue Queenslander self. It’s indeed awful to imagine, but according to multi-platinum musician Megan Washington, that’s almost what happened when Ludo Studio was trying to work out how to take the beloved show around the world.“I remember 100 years ago, when I was in the Ludo offices and the question of the day, or the problem of the day was, were they going to have to dub the show into an American accent for American audiences?” Megan, who plays Bluey’s teacher Calypso, said on an interview with Robin Bailey and Kip Wightman on KIIS 97.3 [Australia radio station].“It was the true question of the day: ‘How are we going to deal with this? What’s going to happen?”In the end, the idea of dubbing “Bluey” was impossible; removing the accents can’t erase the inherent Australian-ness of the show.Megan said she was impressed with the decision not to dub.
