We spend half our beauty routines trying to trick our skin into exuding a natural, healthy glow, or rely on makeup products to give us an effortlessly radiant complexion. Which is wonderful, until we’re either actually poorly, or we want to fake being sick to get out of something we don’t want to do and no one will believe us because we’re over here with hydrated, bronzed skin looking like we’ve never been sick a day in our lives. It seems this is something plenty of us are struggling with, as a TikTok video has gone viral after it gave a step-by-step tutorial on how to fake looking sick.
The video, which was shared by beauty fan Cat Quinn, has amassed more than 21k saves from viewers who are bookmarking it for their next sick day from work, and shows you exactly how to make yourself look unwell. In the video, Cat has her makeup done by makeup department head Jenny Lin, who has worked on plenty of movie and TV sets to create ill or hungover looks for the cast members. So, if you’re desperately trying to get out of something – or swear you’re just curious – here’s exactly how to make yourself look sick.
You know, just in case. To start with, Cat takes a sheer foundation in a shade that’s two to three shades lighter than your usual colour. For her look, the TikToker opts for MAC Cosmetics Studio Radiance Face and Body Radiant Sheer Foundation, £34 here, which gives you the appearance of not wearing makeup whilst making you look paler and less healthy.
Next Jenny takes a cream contour kit and uses the darker shades to emphasise the shadows of Cat’s face. You can use one like the e.l.f. Cream Contour Palette, £9 here, to darken areas such as under the eyes, making you look tired and run down.
