Money saving expert Martin Lewis has warned millions of EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three customers to send a simple but crucial text before next Monday.
Up to 14 million smartphone users in the UK have been told to send a text to their mobile operator by this weekend as Martin claims it could save them serious money, reports Birmingham Live. The money guru told people to text the word 'INFO' to the number 85075 in order to see if they are out of their current mobile phone contract.
Martin posted a video to his X page, saying: "It's free and it will tell you whether you're one of 14 million people in the UK who are currently out of contract and therefore free to switch and can likely save a shed load."
He added: "On this worth noting when you text a few providers (eg Three) want your date of birth as an ID security check. Most don't but if asked this is not unusual."
One X user asked: "What is the benefit to switching before the price rise please? Isn't it better to wait until after so you don't get surprises?" Martin replied: "Many cheap sims are fixed price for a year so do it before you pay more."
Another asked: "You mention 'Wi-Fi calling'. My (clever) son was able to activate this on my android phone even though my new (cheap) SIM provider claims not to support this on my phone model. (I'm not qualified to give any general advice here, but maybe something your team could investigate?"
One said: "I need a phone where I can pay per min/text not monthly. All the monthly ones are far too expensive when you rarely use your phone. I've been paying £15 a year PAYG and they won't let me top-up now. I'm not paying £7+ a month for maybe 3-4 texts and 1 call."
