Thomas Kingston and his royal wife, Lady Gabriella Windsor, were 'happy and chatty' whilst they attended a public appearance just days prior to his death.
According to friends, the financier and former hostage negotiator - who is the son-in-law of the Prince and Princess of Kent - attended an event at the National Gallery in London last Wednesday and seemed 'positive as ever'.
The 45-year-old was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening, with emergency services called just after 6pm, reports the Mirror.
An inquest will be held but there are no suspicious circumstances and no other parties involved.
Mr Kingston is survived by his father Martin Kingston, mother Jill Mary Kingston, and sisters Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray.
Mr Kingston and Lady Gabriella - the 56th in line to the throne - were last snapped together on Valentine’s Day at an event celebrating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio, also attended by Queen Camilla.
A friend told the Daily Mail: “They seemed happy and positive as ever. Ella was particularly chatty.” Another close friend, who attended the couple's wedding in May 2019, added: “It's utterly shocking. None of us saw it coming. I cannot understand it.”
The couple married at St George’s Chapel on the Windsor estate - where Camilla, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew - among other members of the Firm - yesterday attended a memorial service for the late King Constantine of Greece.
Gloucestershire Constabulary said it was called by the ambulance service about the death of Mr Kingston at 6.25pm on Sunday. They added: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
