New research from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) suggests that around one in five adults were finding bills and credit commitments a heavy burden by the start of this year. The City regulator found that the number of adults struggling this way is estimated to have increased by 3.1 million since May 2022, rising from around 7.8 million (15%) in May last year to 10.9 million (21%) in January 2023.

The Eurovision song contest is officially set to be held in Liverpool tonight after last year’s winners Ukraine were left unable to host due to their ongoing war with Russia.The much beloved singing contest, which is set to be presented by British stars including Rylan Clark, invites viewers to vote for their favourite acts. Millions of older people will receive a State Pension boost this year after weekly payments increased by 10.1 per cent in April as part of the annual benefits uprating. The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show there are now 12.6 million people across Great Britain receiving State Pension payments, including 992,052 living in Scotland.

Multiple A-listers (Adele, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles et al.) were reported to have declined official invitations, and their wariness around hitching their brands to what often feels like Britain’s longest-running soap opera, currently scattering followers after a succession of unsavory plotlines, now seems understandable.
