It’s nearly game over for The Who’s Tommy:The Tony-nominated musical revival will end its Broadway run next month, press agency Boneau/Bryan-Brown said today. The musical will have played more than 130 regular performancesat the Nederlander Theatre when the final curtain falls on July 21.
The well-reviewed production from Tony-winning creators Pete Townshend (music, lyrics, book) and Des McAnuff (direction, book) was nominated for Best Revival of a Musical at the Tony Awards this month but lost to Merrily We Roll Alongstarring Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez.
Townshend joined the company to play “Pinball Wizard” during the Tonys telecast on June 16.

Based on The Who’s seminal 1969 rock opera Tommy, the show stars Ali Louis Bourzgui as the titular boy who witnesses his dad shoot a romantic rival and is relegated to staring endlessly into a mirror. Relegated to staring endlessly into a mirror, he is transformed by his “crazy flipper fingers” into a pinball legend and becomes a guru to his “disciples.” The cast also includes Alison Luff, Adam Jacobs, John Ambrosino, Bobby Conte and Christina Sajous as The Acid Queen.
The album and show is rife with rock classics including “Pinball Wizard” — which Elton John remade into a mid-’70 No. 1 smash — “See Me, Feel Me,” “Acid Queen,” “I’m Free” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
