The Weeknd Debuts “Scared To Live” On ‘Saturday Night Live’

This pandemic can’t stop the music, as more artists are getting creative to stay in tune with their fans. At-home and other livestream concerts are being held, and streaming services are serving up special music content to keep your ears happy while you’re on coronavirus lockdown. Here are six things to keep your house party rocking this weekend.

Sir Elton John has never been shy about heaping praise, and now The Weeknd is the latest artist to get John’s co-sign. While people all over the world are living in quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe checked in on John and asked him what he thought about The Weeknd taking inspiration from “Your Song” on the After Hours cut “Scared To Live.”

Apple Music’s Zane Lowe introduced a new daily interview series on Monday (March 23), during which artists will select an hour of music to reflect their current mood each day. The first guest, Elton John, chatted with Lowe about a wide range of topics including up-and-coming artists, his relationship with The Weeknd and staying positive as the coronavirus continues to spread.

In an effort to connect musicians with their fans and encourage self-quarantining during the coronavirus outbreak, Friday saw the launch of a special edition of the iconic MTV Unplugged series. This program aired regularly in the 1990s, featuring artists such as Elton John, Aerosmith, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen.

According to People, the Duke of Sussex thought he was taking private phone calls from young environmental activist Greta Thunberg and her father, Svante Thunberg, when in actuality he was speaking with known Russian hoaxers Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov. The phone calls reportedly took place on New Year's Eve and January 22. Per Good Morning America, Kuznetsov and Stolyarov have previously pranked the likes of Elton John and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Weeknd fans tuning in to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend certainly got their money’s worth, as the artist not only performed his recent single “Blinding Lights,” but premiered a stunning new ballad called “Scared to Live” and showed off his comic chops in a musical skit and appeared briefly on “Weeknd Update” (geddit?).

The Weeknd was the musical guest on las night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, where he performed “Blinding Lights,” and debuted a new song called “Scared to Live” (which interpolates Elton John’s “Your Song”). He was accompanied by Oneohtrix Point Never for the latter.
