Sharon, from Glasgow, Scotland, left school at the age of 16 to pursue acting.
She enrolled on to a performing arts course and went on to study drama at university in Hull.
She performed stand-up comedy before landing her break-out role as Rae Earl in the E4 series My Mad Fat Diary in 2013.
The role saw her nominated for Best Actress with the British Academy Scotland Awards twice as well as with the Royal Television Society once.
