Gus Van Sant has one of the more interesting filmmaking careers in modern Hollywood. From his breakout film, “Drugstore Cowboy,” he would go on to direct some of the most beloved films (“Good Will Hunting,” “Milk”) to some of the most polarizing (“Elephant,” “Psycho” remake).

Leonardo DiCaprio was considered a favorite to receive a Best Actor nomination at the 2024 Oscars for his work in Killers of the Flower Moon, but he didn’t get one in the end.

Valerie Wu Intern Lily Gladstone has become the first Native American woman to be nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards. Gladstone was recognized for her role as Osage woman and historical figure Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone’s nomination comes four years after Yalitza Aparicio, who is Indigenous Mexican, received a best actress nomination at the 2019 Oscars. Aparicio starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film “Roma” as housekeeper Cleodegaria “Cleo” Gutiérrez.

Norman Frederick Jewison, acclaimed and incredibly versatile director of In the Heat of the Night, Fiddler on the Roof and Moonstruck, died peacefully Saturday, January 20, 2024 at home at the age of 97.

Luis Vasquez, the driving force behind post-punk/darkwave project the Soft Moon, died in Los Angeles early Friday at age 44, according to the L.A. County coroner.

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) reveals its list of 2024 Special Achievement Honorees which includes Killers of the Flower Moon, Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner at Foxxhill productions, Fatima Robinson, head choreographer on The Color Purple 2024, and others were chosen for their contributions to the entertainment industry.
