Radio 1 DJ Mollie King has opened up about how she discovered her inner strength after two major life events occurred within a fortnight.
The 36 year old welcomed her baby girl, Annabella, in November 2022, but also tragically lost her father, Stephen, to a brain tumour just 10 days later. She described this period as the most challenging she's ever faced, but also a time of self-discovery. Speaking to Women's Health UK, Mollie shared: "My dad was the healthiest person I knew.
He was really athletic; he'd run three marathons and he was still super strong.
To then find out half-way through my pregnancy that he had a brain tumour and that we didn't have long with him was such a shock. I think [the lesson] is just be kind to yourself; you never know what's around the corner." She added: "Also, when you're really, really pushed [and] that's the hardest I've ever been pushed, learning to be a mum and then my dad passed away 10 days after the birth of Annabella, I actually think the big thing that I have learned is that we are stronger than we think we are. And I think that we've all got it in us to be strong." The Saturday's star Mollie King participated in a challenge this March for Comic Relief.
She pedalled from London to her late dad's home city of Hull and raised over £1.3m. Reflecting on her gruelling 311-mile expedition, she shared: "I lost my dad just over a year ago, and that was the worst time of my life. At the time, I didn't really have much time to process it.
I just thought an endurance challenge would give me that time to take it in and to absorb it. And it did. It was amazing.

Brent Lang Executive Editor When Michael Angarano was trying to get “Sacramento,” his indie buddy comedy about two friends who go on a road trip to a certain state capital off the ground, the question he’d get was always the same. Does it really need to be set in Sacramento? “At one point we were ready to shoot the movie in Atlanta — we had the financing and everything,” remembers Angarano, who directed the film, as well as co-wrote it. “And this was for a movie called ‘Sacramento.’ But it’s like why try to cheat it? Maybe, we should we just call it ‘Athens’ or ‘Savannah’?” And even though Angarano and his co-writer Chris Smith weren’t that familiar with the city that inspired their film, its appearance on a highway sign, informing them of the California city’s distance from Los Angeles, was foundational.
