The saga of “Dune” continues in a new trailer for the second instalment of director Denis Villeneuve’s screen adaptation of sci-fi author Frank Herbert’s iconic Dune novels.
“’Dune: Part Two’ will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” notes the film’s official synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
In addition to Chalamet and Zendaya, the big-screen epics’s sprawling cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”), Josh Brolin (“Avengers: End Game”, “Milk”), Austin Butler (“Elvis”, “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood”), Florence Pugh (“Black Widow”, “Little Women”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Thor: Love and Thunder”), Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter”, “Hairspray”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences”, “Lady Bird”), Léa Seydoux (the “James Bond” franchise and “Crimes of the Future”), in addition to Stellan Skarsgård (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”, “Assassin’s Creed”), and Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”, “Being the Ricardos”).

“Dune: Part Two” was filmed on location in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy, and is slated to hit theatres on Nov. 3.

But Hollywood is already quietly planning for the Venice Film Festival lineup, as the unofficial launch of awards season in late August is starting to shape up with several high-profile titles, Variety has learned. Among the films in contention to bow on the Lido: Luca Guadagnino’s sexy tennis comedy “Challengers,” starring Zendaya and Josh O’Connor, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ surrealist science-fiction romance “Poor Things,” with Emma Stone and Marc Ruffalo, among entries believed to be locked-in for a Venice launch. Zendaya was last in Venice in 2021 with “Dune,” but Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, which has an early November launch date, is not expected to follow suit to the fest.

The two brothers are in competition to become the Harkonnen family’s successor on the planet Arrakis.

Movie” topped the charts for the last four weeks. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is expected to bring in between $110 million and $120 million in its opening weekend, which is in between the grosses of the previous two films, also directed by Gunn. The first “Guardians of the Galaxy” had $11.2 million in Thursday previews on its way to opening with $94 million back in 2014. Its sequel, 2017’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” reached $17 million in Thursday previews and landed a $146 million opening weekend.
