Taylor Swift has a new album due in October. Midnights, out October 21, is based on “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” according to a statement posted on Swift's Instagram. The album will be her 10th studio effort and the follow-up to 2020 lockdown albums Folklore and Evermore.

Johnny Depp made a surprise cameo at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards – telling the audience he "needed the work" as he was projected on stage as the channel's famous Moon Man astronaut mascot. The actor and musician opened the ceremony on a night that saw British star Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj among the big winners. Depp's appearance at the show marks the latest step in a comeback into the public sphere since winning his multimillion-dollar lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ were awarded with the golden icon award at Sunday 28 August night's MTV VMA awards. On collecting their award, bassist Flea took the opportunity to dedicate it to the late drummer of the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins.The 50 year old was tragically found dead in a hotel room in the north of Bogota, Colombia, where the band were set to play at a festival on Friday 25 March.

Taylor Swift is set to begin at the University of Texas (UTA) in Austin.The new course, which begins this autumn and is titled The Taylor Swift Songbook, will see her read alongside the likes of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Keats and Sylvia Plath.Preliminary texts for the course include her 2020 lockdown albums ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, 2019’s ‘Lover’ and the new ‘Taylor’s Version’ reissue of ‘Red’.According to a description on the UTA website, the course will use “the songwriting of pop music icon Taylor Swift to introduce literary critical reading and research methods-basic skills for work in English literature and other humanities disciplines.It adds: “Focusing on Swift’s music and the cultural contexts in which it and her career are situated, we’ll consider frameworks for understanding her work, such as poetic form, style, and history among various matters and theoretical issues important to contextualisation as we practice close and in-depth reading, evaluating secondary sources, and building strong arguments.”Earlier this year, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute launched a new course on Swift. The course began at the Davis Institute, which is part of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, on January 26 ran through to March 9.In May, Swift then delivered a commencement address for New York University’s class of 2022.

Twilight: New Moon director Chris Weitz has admitted he somewhat regrets his decision not to cast Taylor Swift in the series’ second film.In a new interview on The Twilight Effect, the podcast of Ashley Greene (who starred as Alice Cullen in the film franchise), Weitz revealed that while Swift had wanted to be an extra in 2009’s New Moon, he turned the opportunity down.“Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, ‘Taylor would like to be in this movie – not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard,” Weitz said during the episode, as The Independent points out. Though it was made clear Swift only wanted to appear as “someone at the cafeteria, or the diner, or whatever,” Weitz nevertheless thought her presence in the film would be too distracting.“The hardest thing for me was to be like, the moment that Taylor Swift walks onto the screen, for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything,” he said on the podcast.
