The tearjerking moment Sinead O'Connor fans broke out into a rendition of her biggest hit as they waited for her funeral cortege to pass her Irish home was captured on video.
Fans of the singer, who died at the age of 56 last month, lined the streets of Bray, in Co Wicklow, to pay their respects ahead of a private funeral service today, August 8. A group of mourners outside her home, where she lived for 15 years, sang a sombre rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U as they waited for the procession to pass.
A pink chair was placed outside the pink-framed conservatory of the house, with pink flowers, candles and a photo of the singer placed at the base of the chair. Handwritten notes left outside thanked the singer for sharing her voice and her music. One note said: “You are forever in my heart.”

Another sign left at the wall of the property listed causes that the singer had expressed support for, including welcoming refugees. It read: “Where words fail, music speaks.” The singer sold the house in 2021 and it now lies empty.
Decorated with flowers and Pride flags, a Volkswagen camper van could be heard playing some of O’Connor’s songs from speakers mounted on the roof for the gathered crowds. Roads were closed off by police around the Promenade so that fans could pay their respects before the procession moves on to a private burial service.
As the funeral cortege passed through the town, mourners threw red and yellow flowers onto the roof of the hearse. Fans were seen standing up on walls, holding flowers and waving Irish flags.
Among those in attendance at the private service was the president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins,
