She told her fans that there would "never be anything to sing about again". The iconic Irish singer, who crooned a version of one of the most famous 90s songs in the world, Nothing Compares 2 U, was sadly confirmed dead yesterday, July 26, at the age of 56.
Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news with a statement that read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. "Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time." As the news came only a year and a half after she lost her beloved son to suicide, fans and colleagues flooded social media with tributes. As the music industry mourns the loss of such a singular performer - Sinéad was most recently featured singing the title theme on the Outlander season seven credits - it turns out that the star had struggled to return to her passion after losing her teenage child.
At the time of his death, mum-of-four Sinéad shared the news on her Twitter page, with tweets that have since been deleted. “My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God," she began last year. “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example.
My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace." The star then added: "Just to say, suggestions there’ll be any performances this year or next year or ever again are erroneous.
