We’re now well into the first week of the Easter holidays and if you’re looking for something to occupy the kids, then the Whitworth in Manchester may have just what you need. The art gallery, located on the edge of Whitworth Park on Oxford Road, has a range of activities on offer throughout the holidays.
This week it’s been hosting drop-in sessions with the charity Afrocats, which has transformed the gallery’s art garden into a “giant outdoor art studio”. Inspired by the Althea McNish exhibition inside the gallery, the sessions invite families to create their own nature-inspired designs using materials found in nature.
Suitable for all ages from babies to teens, the free sessions have different areas for little ones and for big kids. Although they’re only running for a limited period, there’s still time to check out the last session taking place today (Thursday, April 6) from 12pm to 3pm.

There are lots of other exciting activities to do at the gallery this Easter if you can’t make the Afrocats sessions. Families can collect a free welly walk booklet from the Whitworth’s parkside entrance which will help you explore the park, art and nature.
From the shop you can collect a ‘bag of creativity’ so kids can have fun with Althea McNish-inspired creative activities. On the gallery’s mezzanine floor is the School of Creativity, where there are pencils and paper available for children to make their own art, as well as specially designed Whitworth Minecraft machines.
Naturally there’s the gallery’s incredible exhibitions and collections which are worth checking out too. Kids will also love the play area in Whitworth Park.
