‘The Great Christmas Light Fight’ Tops Wednesday Ratings On Silent Night Of Repeats

This Is Us ticked down a tenth in the adults 18-49 demographic to a 0.9 rating and netted 5.31 million viewers, but it was still enough for NBCs flagship drama to lead Tuesday in primetime. Despite the dip, This Is Us continues to do well in delayed viewing in the demo and total viewers; last week’s episode is already up to a 3.2 in the demo.

The world came to a halt Wednesday as Donald Trump supporters invaded Capitol Hill, and broadcast primetime was filled with network news coverage of the unrest and its aftermath. NBC led in ratings with a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.42 million viewers, the night’s largest audience, with its three-hour special report.

ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest led the way Thursday with its annual countdown to the new year, drawing a 2.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 8.37 million viewers in the primetime portion of its broadcast in fast affiliate Nielsen Live+Same Day numbers.

All was fairly quiet across broadcasters as NBC led the night with encores of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD which delivered a 0.4 in the adults 18-49 demographic across the board.

As the networks relax in the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, there has ben some fresh fare that pops up. On ABC on Tuesday night, that meant the ABC News special The Year: 2020, a recap of a year most equate to terms like “dumpster fire” or “trainwreck.” Either way, 2020 is one we will never forget–  whether you want to or not.

Hosted by Craig Robinson and featuring judges Ken Jeong, Paula Abdul, Brian Austin Green and Ashley Tisdale, the new series topped the night in non-sports fare, delivering a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4.12 million viewers. The numbers will likely be adjusted in finals due to NFL overrun.
