The BBC’s first Gaming Prom is coming this August

If the jury press conference for the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is anything to go by, we’re in for a pretty punchy ride on the Croisette the next few weeks.

John Hopewell Chief International CorrespondentMiguel Bernardeau, Guzmán in Netflix smash hit “Elite,” and Mexico’s Renata Notni will head the cast of “Zorro,” a reboot series from Los Angeles-based Secuoya Studios and John Gertz that will stream in exclusivity on Amazon’s Prime Video in the U.S., Latin America and Spain. The flagship series at Secuoya Studios, “Zorro,” a modern take on the hero, is directed by Javier Quintas, whose credits include episodes of “Money Heist” and “Sky Rojo,” and Miguel Angel Vivas, a director on “Locked Up” and “Unauthorized Living.” Written by Carlos Portela (“Hierro,” “Velvet Collection”), the 10 episode series is executive produced for Secuoya Studios by David Martínez, David Cotarelo and Angela Agudo.  John Gertz, founder of Zorro Productions and a producer on “The Mask of Zorro” and “The Legend of Zorro” movies titles, also executive produces along with former Sony exec Andy Kaplan at KC Global Media, Sergio Pizzolante for C&T Mobs, and Jesús Torres and Glenda Pacanins at NoStatusQuo Studios.Bernardeau will play a new version of Diego de la Vega, a landowner and, in disguise, masked hero of the people.

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are reuniting for a new film. The pair is set to star in, an adaptation of the graphic novel by Richard McGuire.Hanks and Wright will also reunite with director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth on the project, which was announced ahead of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Given that Francis Ford Coppola‘s independently-financed $100 million-plus budgeted passion project film “Megalopolis,” is one he’s been talking about for over two decades at least—a project he once abandoned and only recently came back to —when news arrived that Oscar Isaac had ultimately passed on the lead role, it made lots of cinephiles dying to see the project very nervous. Well, chalk that set back up to a blip as the director of “The Godfather” trilogy and “Apocalypse Now” has not only found a new leading man, but a whole new supporting cast as well.

Sony Pictures has preemptively acquired US rights to Miramax’s Here, a film adaptation of the celebrated Richard McGuire graphic novel that will reunite the Forrest Gump team: Academy Award-winners director Robert Zemeckis, screenwriter Eric Roth and star Tom Hanks, with Robin Wright also starring. It’s the quartet’s first time back together since the 1994 film classic, which won six Oscars including Best Picture.

It features a score of songs written and made famous by female artists and female-fronted bands from the BMG catalog, including Blondie, P!nk, Avril Lavigne, Pat Benatar and Sleater-Kinney, along with the title song, the Dead Milkmen’s 1988’s “Punk Rock Girl”; the full tracklist appears below.

Television legend Lorraine Kelly has finally faced her fear to get back on a horse, 10 years since she first suffered a terrifying accident while riding one. The 62 year old presenter took on the challenge on Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine, with the popular Scotswoman admitting she hadn’t been able to go near a horse since suffering a horrific accident in 2012, which saw her rushed to St.George’s hospital in London for life saving treatment. “I still haven’t been able to go near a horse… ever since I’ve not really had any experience with horses,” said Lorraine.

Anton Du Beke has joked he is going to get his first tattoo in honour of Strictly Come Dancing after feeling out of place on the show. The professional dancer, 55, has been a part of Strictly since it first aired on BBC in 2004 and last year became a judge. He admitted that since younger, inked male professionals joined the show he had been pushed to the back of group dances and didn't feel in the spotlight anymore.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorLive Nation Entertainment posted the best first quarter in its history this year, according to financial results released Thursday for the quarter ended March 31, 2022.“Momentum has picked up for all of our businesses over the course of the first quarter, and as a result, we delivered financial performance that greatly surpassed our previous expectations, with operating income of $27 million and [adjusted operating income] of $209 million,” CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement accompanying the results. “Artists are back on the road and fan demand has never been stronger, a reflection that live events remain a clear priority for consumers as our social lives restart.”The company’s AOI of $209 million topped the previous record, Q1 of 2019, by $94 million, and was $361 million better than 2021 — when the industry had not yet begun to emerge from the pandemic — with a boost of $269 million in ticketing, $66 million in sponsorship and $26 million in concerts.

A fantastic new sci-fi musical is on the horizon from Saul Williams, who co-directs alongside cinematographer Anisia Uzeyman and brings an Afrofuturist vision to the big screen with the sci-fi musical “Neptune Frost.” It will be executive produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“In The Heights“) and Stephen Hendel (“Finding Fela“) and features all-original music from Williams.

The song was co-written with longtime collaborator Ludvig Söderberg.“When you’re with someone for a long time and it ends all of all sudden, it’s like a part of you has died,” Lo says of the song.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorLong-running indie duo Beach House — who released the sprawling 18-song double album, ‘Once Twice Melody,’ just a few weeks ago — are making their film-scoring debut with Netflix’s “Along for the Ride,” which is described in the announcement as “a sweet summer film based on the popular YA book by New York Times bestselling author Sarah Dessen.” The film arrives on Netflix on Friday.Written and directed by Sofia Alvarez (who wrote the screenplay for both “To All the Boys I’ve Love Before” and its sequel), “Along for the Ride” tells the story of Auden (Emma Pasarow), who’s decided to spend her last summer before college in picturesque Colby Beach, according to the synopsis. While other teens party in the sun, loner Auden spends her time roaming the streets after everyone else is asleep.

Police have today confirmed that a body found in a forest is missing mum Katie Kenyon. The devastating discovery was made in the Forest of Boland on Friday evening shortly after police were given new information about where to search for the mother-of-two.

The long-running festival, which launched in Spain but has since expanded to Southern California and South America, is being held in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Santiago, Chile and also features Bjork, Lorde and Arctic Monkeys (see the full lineup below).Sources tell Variety that he will be performing at “major” summer festivals in the summer, presumably in the U.S., but these are the first announced appearances.
