Before the popularity of true crime exploded, the 2004 French docuseries “The Staircase” was one of the genre’s crown jewels. Jean-Xavier de Lastrade’s non-fiction chronicle of the mystery surrounding the 2001 death of Kathleen Peterson won a Peabody Award in 2005, anticipating the success of podcasts like “Serial” and docuseries like “The Jinx.” Now, the infamous story is coming to HBO Max in a new scripted adaptation from writer/director Antonio Campos (“The Devil All the Time”).

“Conflict is intimacy,” showrunner Paul W. Downs recently told EW in preparation for the eagerly anticipated second season of “Hacks,” suggesting a resumption of the biting tone which made season one an instant hit.

A darkly humorous story of modern love and divorce, HBO Max’s “Made For Love” also centered on the dark and twisted side of technology. Season one followed Hazel Green (Cristin Milioti), a thirty-something woman on the run after ten years in a suffocating marriage to tech billionaire Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen), as smart as he is insufferable.

Discovery leadership, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network has moved from the Discovery to the Warner Bros. side of the company under HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys. But when a baby literally falls into her arms after its mother throws herself off a cliff, Natasha becomes its assumed carer.Per an official synopsis, the series sees Natasha grapple with her newfound and wholly unexpected parenthood as the baby controls and even kills those around her.
