LeicestershireLive reached out to Tesco about the lifeless marigolds, who have confirmed the plants have now been removed from sale. A spokesman apologised for the poor quality of the products and advised any unhappy customers they are eligible for a refund.
A shopper, who did not want to be named, was so confused they took a picture of the shelves. She said: "The plants looked okay from a distance, but when I went closer, loads of them were completely dead - just sticks ready for the compost.
"I took a picture because I thought it was just bizarre. They must have been wheeled out like that this morning. Why would a store think that’s okay? It doesn’t create a good impression - quite the opposite.
"Don't be fooled by the green ones underneath. Two or three rows on the lower shelf were all completely dead too. I just thought it was all a bit bonkers".
A Tesco spokesperson responded to the photos. They said: "We’re really sorry about the poor quality bedding plants on display at our Narborough Road store. These fall below the standard we expect and have been removed from sale.
