A man armed with a knife killed a schoolteacher and seriously injured two other people in an attack in the grounds of a high school in the northeastern French town of Arras on Friday.
French news channel BFMTV said that according to their police sources the man, who was apprehended and is now in police custody, was 20 years old and of Chechen origin.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office announced it had opened an investigation into “assassination in relation to a terrorist enterprise” as well as “attempted assassination in relation to a terrorist enterprise” and “terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing crimes of harm to persons.”

Footage circulating on social networks appears to show people attempting to reason with the man as well as head him off from entering the main school building. No pupils were harmed in the attack.
