Taylor Swift is shaking it off the charts. One of the pop superstar's recent performances at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, triggered seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, according to local seismologists.
The earth-rattling event — dubbed «Swift Quake» — was not classified as an actual earthquake, but did record a maximum ground acceleration of about 0.011 meters per second squared, Western Washington University geology professor Jackie Caplan-Auerbach told. The occurrence is being compared to 2011's «Beast Quake» in the same stadium, which was triggered by the NFL's Seattle Seahawks fans after a touchdown by Marshawn «Beast Mode» Lynch.
Caplan-Auerbach first looked into the data surrounding Swift's shows on July 22 and 23 after noticing chatter in a social media group she monitors about Pacific Northwest earthquakes.«I grabbed 10 hours of data, from when doors opened to well after I thought the audience had gone home, and I just plotted them out to see how did the ground shake,» she told Seattle's King 5 News.«I don’t really want to get into a snickering match between Seahawks fans and Swifties, but I will say Swifties have it in the bag,” she said. „This was much bigger than the Beast Quake in terms of the raw amplitude of shaking, and it went on for a whole lot longer, of course.“ In an interview with CNN, Caplan-Auerbach noted that the discrepancy between the two instances is primarily due to the nature of a sporting event versus a concert.
„The shaking was twice as strong as 'Beast Quake.' It absolutely doubled it,“ she shared. „The primary difference is the duration of shaking,“ she continued.

Taylor Swift has given out over $55million (£43million) in bonuses to the crew members working on her ongoing ‘Eras Tour’.The news comes after it was reported yesterday (August 1) that the singer had gifted the production truck drivers – responsible for hauling her equipment to each live show – bonuses of $100,000 (£77,000) each. Now, as detailed by People Magazine, the pop superstar has also shared generous amounts of extra income with the remainder of her ‘Eras Tour’ crew, and the total equates to a reported amount of $55million (£43million).The bonuses arrive as Swift is about to wrap up the US leg of her mammoth world tour, with six sold-out shows at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium. The live shows kicked off in Glendale, Arizona back in March, and have since gone on to arrive at multiple cities across the country.Already, the tour is set to become one of the highest-grossing tours of all time, and is speculated to have brought in over $1billion (£778million) – potentially explaining why the hefty amount of bonuses were offered to crew members.Although the specific amount given to others working on the tour – including dancers, sound technicians, catering, riggers and more – remains unknown, Michael Scherkenbach, the founder of transportation and logistics company Shomotion, confirmed the gift in a LinkedIn post.“When [Taylor’s father] Scott Swift called the Shomotion LLC steel / stage drivers in for a meeting, this was the last thing they expected – THANK YOU,” he wrote in the update.

Taylor Swift‘s ‘Eras’ tour caused activity similar to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. The singer’s huge stadium tour hit the city’s Lumen Field venue for two nights last weekend (July 22-23), and seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach told CNN that data collected over the shows showed seismic activity of a huge scale.Caplan-Auerbach told the outlet that “the shaking was twice as strong” as an event known as ‘Beast Quake’, which occurred in 2011 when Seattle Seahawks fans celebrated a touchdown at an NFL game.“The primary difference is the duration of shaking,” she added. “Cheering after a touchdown lasts for a couple seconds, but eventually it dies down.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour wasn’t creating enough of a groundswell, Swifties caused such a ruckus during the Seattle, Washington leg that they generated the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake — rivaling the legendary “Beastquake” of 2011.“This was much bigger,” Western Washington University geology professor Jackie Caplan-Auerbach told King 5 after comparing the tectonic activity. The groundbreaking phenomenon occurred over the weekend while the “Antihero” singer had performed sold-out back-to-back shows to over 144,000 fans at Lumen Field, the Seattle Times reported.Little did the Grammy winner know that her concert would prove earth-shattering in the seismic sense: The activity from the three-and-a-half-hour marathon caused quite a commotion on a seismometer located next to the stadium, which prompted Caplan-Auerback to conduct a study to see if it surpassed the previous Lumen record caused by the Beastquake. For those unfamiliar with Seattle sports lore, this seminal event occurred in 2011 after Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch scored a touchdown and fans went wild.To see how the two events compared tectonically, Caplan-Auerback first analyzed data from the two Swift shows.
