New Batman Film ‘Brave and the Bold’ Lands ‘The Flash’ Director Andy Muschietti (EXCLUSIVE)

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Andy Muschietti is officially suiting up to direct a new Batman film, Variety can report exclusively. The film is one of several new DC Studios titles mapped out by leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran earlier this year. Muschietti, behind this weekend’s superhero release “The Flash,” will direct “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.” The project is based on the comic series authored by Grant Morrison, who Gunn called “exceptionally influential” on in the DC Universe in January. The comics imagine a “Bat family,” where Bruce Wayne’s biological son Damian serves as Robin to his dad’s Batman. Muschietti’s sister and creative partner Barbara will produce the project via their label Double Dream, alongside Gunn and Safran.

Wes Anderson’s New Netflix Film Is a ’37-Minute Movie,’ Director Says: ‘I Really Want My Movies to Be Shown’ in Theaters Over Streaming

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Wes Anderson announced in an interview with IndieWire that his upcoming Netflix movie “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” based on Roald Dahl’s 1977 short story collection, will only be 37 minutes long. The film is Anderson’s second Dahl adaptation after “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel and Ben Kingsley. Notably, “Henry Sugar” marks Anderson’s first Netflix original. He told IndieWire that collaborating with the streamer was more out of necessity than personal preference. “In my case it’s a little bit of a weird thing,” Anderson said about partnering with Netflix. “I knew Roald Dahl since before we made ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ I met Lindsay Dahl, his widow, when we were shooting ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ like 20 years ago. For years I wanted to do ‘Henry Sugar.’ They set this story aside for me because I was friends with them. Lindsay kind of handed the torch to Luke, Dahl’s grandson. So I had this waiting for me. But I really couldn’t figure out the approach. I knew what I liked in the story was the writing of it, Dahl’s words. I couldn’t find the answer, and then suddenly I did. It’s not a feature film. It’s like 37 minutes or something. But by the time I was ready to do it, the Dahl family no longer had the rights at all. They had sold the whole deal to Netflix.”

Annecy: ‘Spider-Verse’ Gets Scary in New Short Film ‘The Spider Within’ (Exclusive First Look)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is currently lighting up the box office (it’s already grossed as much as the original film did in its entire run and the sequel has only been out for two weeks), another, slipperier element of the “Spider-Verse” has just emerged at the Annecy International Film Festival and Market in France: “The Spider Within,” a new short film that is unlike anything we’ve experienced in the Spider-Verse yet.The Sony-produced film focuses on what happens when Miles Morales (once again played by Shameik Moore) starts to feel the pressure of his life as Spider-Man, which results in a scary, trippy little jaunt through his subconscious. It’s a really fascinating and moving little story, made possible by Sony Pictures Imageworks’ LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) program, which aims to “provide high-potential candidates from underrepresented groups an opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience.”TheWrap spoke to “The Spider Within” director Jarelle Dampier, who talked about where the idea of a horror-centered Miles Morales story came from, how his own sleep paralysis informed the short and being a part of the LENS program at Sony Pictures, which gives filmmakers from underrepresented groups the chance to tell new stories in the world of Sony Pictures Animation.

‘Chasing Chasing Amy’ Review: Sav Rodgers’ Engaging Doc Tackles Kevin Smith’s “Problematic” Romcom – Tribeca Film Festival

“Do you understand why I love this movie so much?” asks Sav Rodgers, the director whose adoration of Kevin Smith’s 1997 romcom Chasing Amy has led them on a pilgrimage to parts of New Jersey so ungentrified that, 25 years later, they’re — seriously — almost all still there. “No,” says Shana Lory. Which is a bit of a shock, given that she was the casting director.

Amy Duggar King Accuses Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of 'Gaslighting' in Response to New Docuseries (Exclusive)

Amy Duggar King isn't holding back about her reality TV-famous family. The niece of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar was often featured on the Duggars' TLC reality series, when she was growing up, cast as the more «rebellious» relative, who didn't adhere to her cousins' strict dress code and other doctrines of modesty and obedience. Now, Amy and cousin Jill Duggar Dillard are speaking out in a new Prime Video docuseries, which dives deeper into the Duggars' controversial lifestyle under the teachings of disgraced pastor Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or IBLP, a non-denominational Christian organization that espouses homeschooling, female subservience and conservative values.  Jim Bob and Michelle spoke out against the series on Thursday, publishing a statement to their website about the four-partinvestigation.«The recent 'documentary' that talks about our family is sad because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions hurting people we love,» the statement shared in part. «Like other families, ours too has experienced the joys and heartbreaks of life, just in a very public format.»The Duggars continue by accusing of painting «so much and so many in a derogatory and sensationalized way because sadly that’s the direction of entertainment these days.»«We have always believed that the best chance to repair damaged relationships, or to reconcile differences, is through love in a private setting,»Jim Bob and Michelle's statement continued.
