In recent years and as we have navigated an unprecedented global pandemic, public health professionals have regularly been seen and heard from in the media, highlighting the vital role of these professionals to the public.
But protecting the public from infectious diseases like COVID-19 is just one aspect of the job. Every day, dedicated public health professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect the well-being of our communities, as well as preventing ill-health. They work in a vast variety of areas, including mental health, suicide prevention, obesity prevention, harm relating to alcohol and smoking, environmental hazards, and more.
What's more, with a struggling NHS, longer waiting times, and a mental health crisis, the need for a well-trained and diverse public health workforce is ever-growing. That's where the University of Salford's BSc Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship comes in.
Founded in 2019 and the first of its kind in the UK, the apprenticeship programme was developed through consultation with Public Health England and employers from across the country.
Thanks to input from these knowledgeable bodies, the degree has been mapped to ensure apprentices meet and exceed industry standards, allowing successful graduates to meet the requirements of the UK Public Health Register and to register as Public Health Practitioners.
As one of only five universities in the country offering the degree apprenticeship, the University of Salford is a popular choice for local businesses who are keen to diversify the skills of their staff members, or even individuals who are ready to upskill and take the next steps in their career.
